SPOG–SSPHO Scientific Meeting 2026: Two days of focused exchange in Lugano
On 16 and 17 January 2026, the Swiss Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (SSPHO), together with SPOG, welcomed colleagues from across Switzerland to the joint Scientific Meeting at the Palazzo dei Congressi. Over two intensive days, the meeting offered a dense, well-balanced programme combining clinical questions, translational research and psychosocial perspectives in paediatric oncology and haematology.
The scientific programme opened with keynote lectures that set the tone for the meeting. Topics ranged from the challenges of classifying and treating myelodysplastic syndromes in children, to long-term developments in haemostasis and shared decision-making, and novel approaches for early cancer diagnosis and therapy monitoring. These contributions framed the subsequent sessions and sparked lively discussion well beyond the lecture halls.
Long talks and flash talks highlighted the breadth of current research in Switzerland and beyond. Presentations addressed, among other themes, thromboembolic risk in children with ALL, fertility and long-term outcomes after childhood cancer, precision oncology initiatives, digitalisation in paediatric oncology, registry and biobank infrastructures, and the psychosocial needs of patients, survivors and their families. The format allowed for concise presentations and substantive exchanges, which were actively taken up by the audience.
A dedicated session for young investigators showcased innovative work supported by the SPOG Young Investigator framework, underlining the importance of nurturing the next generation of researchers. The General Assembly of SSPHO on Friday evening and the networking dinner provided additional space for professional exchange and community building.
