New Research Funding: Cardiopulmonary Fitness and Physical Activity in Childhood Cancer Survivors
A new multicenter research project investigating physical activity and cardiopulmonary fitness in childhood cancer survivors has received funding from Swiss Cancer Research (Krebsforschung Schweiz). The study brings together expertise from sports medicine, pediatric oncology, and survivorship research to improve long-term outcomes for young patients.
The project examines how pulmonary health, cardiovascular fitness, and physical activity influence exercise capacity in childhood cancer survivors. By addressing the root causes of reduced fitness following treatment, the research team aims to establish personalized recommendations for physical activity and clinical follow-up care.
The multicenter study is led by Prof. Philipp Latzin (University Children’s Hospital Bern) in close collaboration with:
Prof. Claudia E. Kuehni (Childhood Cancer Research Group, ISPM Bern)
PD Dr. med. Christina Schindera, MD PhD (University Children’s Hospital Basel)
Prof. Marc Ansari (University Children’s Hospital Geneva)
Numerous national and international collaborators.
Several key researchers involved in this national collaboration are active members of the SSPHO network, highlighting the strong scientific engagement of our medical community in advancing survivorship care.
