The Ostschweizer Kinderspital OKS, in collaboration with the University of Lucerne, is seeking a motivated PhD Student in Medicine (100%) to join the collaborative SCREEN project (Safety and effeCts of integRative medicinE on acute side Effects in pediatric oNcology). The position starts in January 2027 or by agreement.

Project Focus and Responsibilities

While pediatric oncology has achieved remarkable 10-year survival rates of 87% in Switzerland through conventional treatments, evidence regarding integrative medicine for supportive care remains sparse. The SCREEN project aims to build an evidence base for integrative approaches to minimize treatment toxicity and enhance patient well-being.

  • Key Duties: Conduct multi-methods research, collect and analyze quantitative/qualitative data, write scientific papers, present at national and international conferences, and assist with grant applications.

  • Research Environment: Based within the Life After Childhood Cancer (LACC) research group in St. Gallen and the Childhood Cancer Research team at the University of Lucerne.

  • Offer: A 3-year appointment (with possible 1-year extension) offering PhD training through the University of Lucerne and the SSPH+ Inter-university Graduate Campus, with salary based on Swiss National Science Foundation guidelines.

Requirements and Application Candidates should hold an MSc or equivalent in medicine, health sciences, or related fields, speak native German with working English proficiency, and have an interest in pediatric oncology and integrative medicine.
